Our Story

Find out how and why Paula Frank, decided to make giving back easier one sip at a time.

It started with an inspired idea to solve an annoying problem AND give back!

How Being Frankish Began…

As someone who has always been eco-conscious, I was pretty thrilled when California outlawed the use of plastic straws. I live a few miles from the beach, so I know what plastic can do to our oceans. My happiness was short-lived when I realized that it was impossible to find a reusable and recyclable straw. If a straw was supposed to be recyclable,  what that usually meant was that it was compostable. Those words are not interchangeable as I would watch the straw slowly disintegrate into my ice tea. If the straw was reusable, it was usually made of steel or silicone. Steel could rust, and I didn’t know what heavy metals were in it. And often, if the straw was a specific color, it could flake into my drink. Silicone was fine, but it was tough to clean, plus it could get a yucky residue, and just like steel, it was not recyclable.

This is where my quest began. To find a reusable, recyclable straw that didn’t rust, didn’t flake, and was made in America. And I’m so happy to tell you – I found my straw! The straw that your contribution supports is all these things. And it is the only Aluminum straw of its kind that is safer for our oceans, made in America, easy to clean, pretty, and incredibly well made.

My Promise to You

You are investing in something bigger than just a straw.

Z

Recyclable

This straw might look like a common steel straw, but it is different. Steel straws are not recyclable and our aluminum straw is 100% recyclable.

Z

100% Organic Dye

The aluminum straws go through an organic dye coloring process that involves 100% organic dyes, which are National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) certified and metal-free. Completely organic and environmentally safe, the process is also American National Standards Institute (ANSI) 51 certified, indicating safe usage for food application without any heavy metals.

Z

High Quality and Durable

This straw is recyclable but that doesn’t mean it was created to be disposable. This straw will give you years of use and consequently keep hundreds of straws out of our oceans. Please follow the care instructions here.

Supports Local Non-Profits

Being Frankish was born from the mission of how to give back easily and locally by purchasing straws. Every purchase you make gives back to a local organizations. Currently, 10% of the proceeds go to the Lymphoma Society or the Benicia Community Action Council.

Z

Made in America

The patented fabrication process is proudly manufactured in America.

Each Color Represents A Local Non-Profit

Then I had an even bigger idea of using the straw to give back to local non-profits. My vision is that each color straw corresponds to the specific non-profit organization that will receive 10% of every sale’s proceeds. Right now, I have two colors available, but I hope to have a rainbow of possibilities.

My silver straw will benefit the Benicia Action Council, a local community nonprofit that serves the less fortunate in my own hometown.  I will literally be able to see the fruits of my labor as my straws are sold and money is donated back to the Benicia Action Counsel.

My lavender straw will benefit The North Bay Chapter of Leukemia and Lymphoma, I have successfully participated in two fundraising drives for this organization and I have personally been profoundly affected by cancer. It means so much to me to be able to give back to an organization that does so much.

I plan to debut additional colors to support other very important causes, but for now, I want to start with two causes that are very near and dear to my heart.

My goal is to give everyone an easy way to give back while using a product that does no harm.
